exciting wkends!

so the exciting news is...i did the bungy jump for the first time ever on saturday! i also did the canyon swing (similar to bungy except swinging uprite on a rope) and canyoning (abseiling among waterfalls)...went to the last resort at the bhote kosi river which is like 3.5 hrs away from kathmandu..the resort was nice..very relaxing with fresh air..nice change from the pollution covered kathmandu..

the bungy jump was the best! im so gonna do it when i get back to nz..altho the headache at the end of the jump wasnt very pleasant..neither was the 30min walk back up the hill..

so the plan for this wkend is going to chitwan on friday..to this jungle resort..gonna be canoeing, elephant riding and seeing culture shows..gonna be cool..then to pokhara the next wkend..which is another popular tourist destination..

doesnt it seem like im on holiday instead of doing a medical elective??? i certainly feel dat way..each day i dread going to the hospital..wanting to sleep in..altho we do start at a comfortable 9.30am..haha..and we finish at 2pm..nice..but it has been interesting at the hospital..docs still keep talking chinese to me..(most of them trained in china)..seeing lots of interesting cases..and things get done so much faster here..the other day was operating day and 15 cases were done in 4 hrs..pretty unbelievable and some kids only got IV anaesthesia for things like incision and drainage of abscesses or chest drains..crazy..outpatient clinic today was also interesting where 4 docs were in one room..2 to each table and all 4 seeing pts at the same time with waiting pts all amongst it..def no sense of privacy at all! altho i dont really get to do much..im seeing quite a bit..rare cases i would never get to see back in nz..and makes me appreciate the healthcare system dat we have in nz..

so another day in the hospital and then off to another wat is hoped to be an enjoyable wkend..tmr marks the end of paed surgery for me and next wk is oncology with maiko! btw..if u wanna read more abt our exciting days here in kathmandu..maiko has a blog too..and photos..
