miss singlish

it's a bit of an old topic but it still entertains me. this year's miss singapore world was a bit of a sad case. check out the video here.



there was huge hoo hah in sg abt this. i knew abt this becos my sis told me abt it. apparently there are 2 camps. most ppl are embarrassed by her poor english and the fact dat someone like her is gonna represent sg. shocking really. but there are some who support her, saying dat the majority of singaporeans speak like dat and she is representative of a big proportion of singaporeans.

personally, im in the first camp. if someone like her is able to win miss singapore, wat is dat saying abt the standard of singaporean girls? she actually WON the competition which is saying dat she is the most beautiful, most photogenic, most articulate, most watever beauty queen of the lot of participants. which then says a lot abt the quality of the girls participating in the competition. i personally feel dat winning a title such as miss singapore is a big deal and shuld be won by someone who is able to carry herself off well and able to articulate herself and be graceful with elegance at the same time. altho yes, she may be representative of the general population, but would u send someone like dat to represent your country in an international competition? it's just like sending someone who runs only as fast as the general population to the olympics. miss world is a prestigious event and it shuld be the elite who are sent to represent singapore. not just some girl next door in ur hdb block.

and to add things to the controversy, she gets caught for credit card fraud and not only dat, she gets caught cheating in her exams. it doesnt bode well for sg to send someone like dat to miss world. wat would the world think? so she has since been dethroned but im not sure who is her replacement. i just hope it's someone who can speak better english.

but ris low has now become a singaporean icon for all the wrong reasons. even the infamous PCK mocks her. dats how famous she is now.







oh yes it's so mean to be mocking her but it still cracks me up whenever i watch the videos. PCK still makes me laugh out loud. it just goes to show the media is cruel and dats why u shuld never become famous unless u're really talented and/or u're really beautiful. unfortunately for ris low, both of which she is not.
